So how does the state of the economy and cleaning and hygiene supplies have any form of relationship? Well it’s quite obvious to us that there has been a shift in the market place. Let’s be fair there are fewer companies out there so there are fewer customers for us however we have seen a steady incline in new customers. And the ones that are left have shed staff and as such they do not use so many toilet rolls, hand towels or use as much soap or black bags. Ok they still use the same amount of floor cleaners, multi-surface cleaners, hover bags and of course latex gloves as most companies still have the same amount of floor and surfaces just less staff.

So what is my point to this? Well you would have thought that hygiene as a whole is and would be something most people would take as a given however we have noticed another shift in the type of toilet rolls, paper hand towels and soap that companies are buying. Years ago they would be buying brands such as Kimberly Clark, Lotus, Tork and all the other well known brands. They would also look at environmentally friendly products. However many people are looking to buy our quality but less known brand Esfina and our standard range of toilet rolls and hand soap.

The environmentally friendly products are not as popular now as they are a little more expensive compared to other ranges and times are tough. Now there will be a number of readers that would disagree with those statements however I would urge them to speak to their local schools and council buildings and ask if they are using 100% environmentally friendly products and I would wager they are not!

I think it important to start with describing the two main soap types before deviating off into other avenues of anti bacterial and such like. Ok so for me there are two different soap types liquid soap and the traditional “bar soap”. Now there is much evidence to support the argument that soap bars are in fact not a hygienic way to wash your hands in fact they can be quite unhealthy.

The research suggests that a bar of soap comes into regular contact with users some of which have some quite “nasty” germs on their hands. How if whilst using the  soap the user does not fully remove those germs (children especially as they do not rub off a decent layer of soap as they simply swap the bar from one hand to the next and do not wet and spin the soap) the germs get embedded into the soap and the soap is then replaced on a “dirty sink” and left open to the atmosphere.

Now many would argue that soap has antibacterial properties and as such it should be able to “kill the germs” left on the soap and should be ready for the next user. Now I will share this with you. Tea has many “cleansing properties” Tea tree in its pure form is extremely good antiseptic properties and so does boiling water so why does a partly drunk tea cup only take a few days before mold starts to grow on it and within a week it’s taken over the whole cup! Well it’s down the fact it has been touched by humans and unfortunately we are covered in bacteria.

So with that in mind would you like to use a bar of soap which could have sat on the side of a dirty sink for a number of days that may have had a previously germ ridden user that is probably now covered in even more germs due to being left to the atmosphere ? So would you prefer to use a liquid soap which has a dispenser and soap which is hygienically held in a sealed container? I will leave that for you to decide! Now it’s Christmas and more importantly the run up to Christmas is the bit I do not understand and concerns me. Ok so I haven’t made much sense so far all will become clear soon I assure you. What concerns me is that every year our sales go down a couple of weeks before Christmas. Now surely everybody still needs to wash their hands and clean their offices probably more so with all the decorations and Christmas trees etc however this does not seem to be the case they simply hold put until January.

January is one of our busiest months it simply goes crazy for us as everybody then catches up on their ordering and want everything ASAP as they have either just run out or just about to run out. Now I can sort of understand the residential customers working in this way as they have lots to think about and the money is probably required to buy Christmas presents and not essentials but why is this the case with businesses?  

So my conclusion is that because businesses are run and manned by people it must be their “standard mindset” that is accidently bought into the work place perhaps; they feel that the toilet rolls and soap will be on some form or Christmas sale or something there is hopping as this will simply not happen. Don’t get me wrong we do have sales and they happen all year round not at Christmas!

It’s  pretty enlightening programme as they all want to win some more than others so they are extremely critical of each other and the first thing that everybody on the programme does is look for dust, hairs and areas that have not been cleaned correctly.

Now it’s the cleanliness bit that really bothers me on the programme. Now these people have obviously written in or being invited to take part so they know what is in store for them. They know when the guests will be arriving but many still do not clean the room to a respectable standard. Now this is all being filmed and shown on national TV.

How many guests do they think they will be getting moving forward when the TV guests found unsightly hairs in the bed and thick layers of dust on the wardrobes and under the bed had not been hovered for months and there is mould growing in the bathroom?

I just do not understand why these hospitality owners do not pay hundreds of pounds employing external commercial cleaners to go over the whole property from top to toe three times over as a matter of course even if you keep the best accommodation it’s just plain business sense right?

Not even taking into account this should be done as standard as people are expected to pay £100+ a night for most of these rooms with some of the rooms being £175+ I have stayed in accommodation at £50 a night that have been better prepared than some of them it beggars belief.

And that’s before we get onto the subject of what guest soap or shampoo they offer.

Well the reason you should continue to read is because this is a compelling story and you want to know more about c fold paper towels. Ok so you are probably asking what a c-fold paper hand towel is and this is a very good question.

A c-fold paper hand towel is as the name suggests a towel made from paper designed to dry hands you know the ones you find in public toilets in schools, restaurants, bars and probably at work too. They are “folded” into different designs as each design has a different purpose and has a different name to denote this purpose.

There is the C-fold the Interfold (V-fold S-fold and I-fold) and the slightly older design of Z-fold. Now as we already suggested each type is folded differently for a reason and the c-fold is folded the way it is as it is the largest paper towel when fully unfolded so is folded multiple times to try not to take up too much space in the paper towel dispenser.

WITH World Toilet Day approaching, the World Toilet Organisation (yes, really) says now is the ideal time to take a look at toilet use across the globe and ask how it could be improved.

Each one of us across Coventry and Warwickshire gets through an average of 28lb of loo roll every year.

That’s two stones of paper, per person, just for visiting the smallest room in the house.

So if you’re wanting to cut your carbon footprint, switching to recycled toilet tissue can make a significant difference with claims it takes between 30 and 70 per cent less energy to produce recycled loo roll than virgin tissue.

So for every virgin roll that’s swapped for a recycled roll there’s a saving in water, electricity and pollutants.

And if your delicate derriere demands a triple-quilted, aloe-infused, bleached toilet tissue you can look for the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) logo on your loo rolls to make sure the wood pulp used to make your toilet paper has come from well-managed woodland.

But the carbon footprint of your trips to the temple of convenience doesn’t end with your loo roll.

As well as the water used to make our toilet tissue we use a staggering amount of water flushing our lavatories. And most of us agree that using clean drinking water to flush toilets is a waste.

Between 30 and 40 per cent of the water we use at home is flushed down the loo.

But one alternative is to harvest rainwater to use in toilets, just like connecting a water butt to collect the rain that falls on your roof to water your plants.

Called ‘greywater’, the untreated water is used to flush your waste.

While this cuts the carbon footprint of sourcing, treating and transporting water pre-flush, post-flush ‘blackwater’ (waste water) still has to be treated.

But another option takes away the need for water in the loo entirely.

Some festivals have started greening up their act by swapping chemical portable loos for dry composting toilets.

The loos look like standard Portaloos but instead of having a bowl and water beneath the toilet seat, there’s a long drop and a bed of straw below.

They don’t use any water at all and work by providing an enclosed environment to allow natural decomposition. Many suggest throwing a handful of sawdust down afterwards as it covers unpleasant smells.

While portable composting loos at festivals might resemble an outdoor pit, the concept of composting loos has come a long way and if you’re prepared to splash the cash on your water closet, you can even have them installed indoors to work just like a standard loo in a standard bathroom.

The composting space beneath the loo can be rotated so a full chamber can be emptied as a new one is started.

And because they don’t rely on water to transfer waste to a treatment system, manufacturers reckon they could help to cut water use at home by up to 60 per cent. And because composting toilets aren’t linked up to the sewage system they avoid effluent being released into watercourses and don’t need pipelines to be laid.

You can even recycle your water, using it as “humanure” around the garden to fertilise your plants.

Many of us turn our noses up at this as being a step too far. But US tycoon and philanthropist Bill Gates is taking this idea to the heart of his new £26 million project to develop a loo that needs no water, or electricity, or sewage treatment – and costs next to nothing.

And unlike most composting toilets, Gates doesn’t want his new loo to take up much space.

Around the world 2.6 billion people have to live without adequate toilets, having to rely on pit latrines.

If anybody where to ask me a nice place to stay in **** place, I would reply firstly with the hospitality accommodation I had received the most memorable extras. As it stood out for me at the time and I can still remember the experience. Ok secondly would be the cheapest place I stayed or the place where I had the best barging as cheap is not always good!

So if you own a hotel, B&B or guest house what will you provide for your guests that makes their stay well that little bit more memorable? Well there are many things you can do some will cost money, some will take energy and some will just take time. However whichever ones you chose I assure you it will definitely be worth the effort.    

So a quick rundown of some of the things you can do for free that make a huge difference. The biggest and most memorable “treat” we received was a crocodile no not a real one however it did a great job of guarding the beds! The crocodile was made from two towels and two little sweets for its eyes: see the picture.

Now this would take a little practice to do and may take an extra 5 mins per room however think of the impact it would make on somebody the first time they saw it! You could do a different design every few days or everyday if the guests are only with you for a weekend. And if you cater for children it would go down a storm.
